Ensemble Medulla is a formation of vocal performers/composers, who develop their instant compositions in a process of co-creative listening to the sounds of urban environments and of different cultures – and listening to each other. From five individual voices a collective sound body emerges, enfolding into grained, rough, oscillating textures: An analogue storage of familiar and strange vocal qualities beyond the formalized music.
At the NOW! Festival Action TheaterTM & Improvisation, 2 – 6 May 2018, curated by Sten Rudstrøm Ensemble Medulla will present on May 6 its new vocal real-time composition NINULLA MEDULLA, based on collective memories of lullabies from all over the world. NINULLA MEDULLA explores the corporeal and intercorporeal blueprint of sound patterns and rhythms encrypted beneath or besides the culturally shaped narratives of song lyrics.
